Welcome

Designed to be fast, friendly and fun there are two different workshops to sign up for; an English workshop and a Maths workshop. Both are aimed primarily at children entering year 6 in September 2025 who would like some stretching material and to get ahead of their classmates. However, they can also be accessed just as easily by children entering year 7 in September 2025 who could use some extra support to be secondary ready. The full timetable of each session is below and you can book at the bottom of the page. All classes are strictly limited to a maximum of 20 students and all are held at Stone Pavillion, Hayes Road, Greenhithe DA9 9DS. The classes will be run by me, Pete (hello!), and I promise they'll have fun and be well cared for. It might be worth considering sending friends or siblings (if they are close in age) so they enjoy the experience more. You can also sign up for both workshops if you wish.

English workshops

Day 1 - Monday July 28th (1:00pm - 2:30pm)
Day 2 - Tuesday 29th July (9:00am - 10:30am)
Day 3 - Wednesday 30th July (9:00am - 10:30am)
Day 4 - Thursday 31st July (9:00am - 10:30am)
Day 5 - Friday 1st August (9:00am - 10:30am)

We will look at a reading text 'Leo and the Gorgon's Curse' by Joe Todd-Stanton. We will be learning comprehension skills through this text such as inference, retrieval, prediction, summarising and characterisation. This will be 30 minutes of each daily session.

For the writing segment, we will base these on a sci-fi text called The Water Tower by Gary Crew. A spooky, sci-fi story. We will be teaching overall writing scaffolds such as ISPACED, the power of 3, noun phrases and persuasive techniques. This will take 1 hour each day.

Both these 'hook texts' are excellent and I recommend them for reluctant readers. The Water Tower has a sequel called Beneath The Surface and Leo and the Gorgon's Curse is part of a series called The Brownstone Mysteries.

Day 1 - Monday July 28th (2:30pm - 4:00pm)
Day 2 - Tuesday 29th July (10:30am - 12:00pm)
Day 3 - Wednesday 30th July (10:30am - 12:00pm)
Day 4 - Thursday 31st July (10:30am - 12:00pm)
Day 5 - Friday 1st August (10:30am - 12:00pm)

We will take care in making sure the basics they will need going forward in their school careers are covered. Long multiplication, long division, percentages, fractions (the 4 operations with fractions, fractions of amounts, equivalent fractions), ratio, probability, calculating missing angles, properties of shapes (including circles), area and volume, algebra...and so much more. We guarantee they will come away buzzing and knowing so much more than they started off the week with!
